Note:
Sanskritization is a concept introduced by famous indian sociologist M N Srinivas. He conducted a study among Lingayats of Coorg.
Sanskritization is a process of social change in which lower castes or tribes adopt the customs, rituals, and practices of the higher castes, particularly the Brahmins, in an attempt to elevate their social status.
Key Features
1. Adoption of Upper-Caste Practices :Lower castes adopt practices such as vegetarianism, Sanskrit-based rituals, and stricter rules about purity and pollution.
2. Claiming Higher Caste Status :Attempting to claim higher caste status through these adoptions.
3. Cultural Imitation: Sanskritization involves cultural imitation, where lower castes imitate the cultural practices of higher castes.
Impact
1. Social Mobility: Sanskritization can lead to social mobility for lower castes, allowing them to improve their standing in the caste hierarchy.
2. Reinforcing Social Hierarchies: However, Sanskritization can also reinforce existing social hierarchies, as it validates the idea that higher castes are superior.

Criticisms
1. Limited Social Change: Sanskritization may not lead to meaningful social change, as it operates within the framework of the caste system rather than challenging it.
